Former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to receive Assam Baibhav Award 2023

GUWAHATI, Jan 16: In a press briefing on Tuesday, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed the recipients of Assam’s Highest Civilian Awards.

Former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, has been chosen for the Assam Baibhav Award 2023 in the field of Law and Justice, as announced by CM Sarma.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “This time, the Assam government has selected former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ranjan Gogoi for the Assam Baibhav Award.”

The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 10, where the Governor will present the state civilian awards, and the Vice President of India will attend as the chief guest. The Assam Baibhav Award is the highest state civilian award. In previous years, the award went to Ratan Tata and Tapan Saikia. This year, the state government has chosen former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ranjan Gogoi for the Award.

Notably, Ranjan Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India and began his legal career on August 28, 1978. He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court on February 28, 2001.
