GUWAHATI, Jan 24: Debolal Gorlosa, the elected Member of Autonomous Council Constituency (MAC) from Dehangi, officially assumed the position of chief executive member (CEM) for the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the District Library Auditorium on Wednesday in Haflong with Simanta Kr Das, the district commissioner of Dima Hasao, administering the oath of office to Gorlosa, who appeared in traditional Dimasa attire. This swearing-in ceremony was carried out in accordance with the official communication received from the Governor of Assam, as per letter no GSA .04/2024/8 dated January 23, 2024.
Notably, this marks Debolal Gorlosa’s third consecutive term as the CEM of NCHAC, reflecting his political acumen and dynamic approach that have led to significant multifaceted development in the Dima Hasao district under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government in the state and in Centre. During the recent election campaign, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced Gorlosa as the next CEM for NCHAC, citing his popularity and effective leadership.
The NCHAC, established under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, plays a crucial role in administering the region and fostering the development of hill communities. Currently, the council is under the leadership of the BJP, with Debolal Gorlosa serving as the chief executive member.
Addressing the media after the swearing-in ceremony, CEM Gorlosa expressed gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao for their confidence in his council and highlighted the accomplishments of the BJP-led government under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He assured the public of the government’s commitment to further development in road communication, infrastructure, tourism, education, healthcare, agriculture, women’s empowerment, and employment sectors. CEM Gorlosa also called for media cooperation in making Dima Hasao a drug and addiction-free district to safeguard the younger generation. Additionally, he announced the formation of the council cabinet, expected to take place around February 10, 2024, following the upcoming ‘Busu Dima Festival’.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of elected MACs for the 13th NCHAC, NCHAC principal secretary (Normal), Dima Hasao Debanon Daulagupu, Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kr Jha, and various dignitaries from different communities, along with BJP members and media personnel.
