GUWAHATI, Feb 14: In a major victory in the war against drugs, police in Guwahati seized suspected heroin during a raid in Panbazar, said an official statement on Wednesday.
In this regard, the police also apprehended two persons, identified 32 year old Nurul Hoque, who hail from Nalbari district, and 32 year old Andul Hanfi Sheikh, who hails from Dhubri district.
“Based on an input a raid was conducted at near 4 No. railway gate, opposite Athgaon MS road under Panbazar police station (PS) Jurisdiction by STF, Assam this afternoon (14.02.24) and below mentioned 2 nos of habitual drugs peddlers have been apprehended,” the statement added.
Both the persons have been taken into custody and necessary formalities have been initiated.
In October last year, a Crime Branch team, in collaboration with the West Guwahati Police Department, had apprehended a suspected drug smuggler in the Santipur area of Guwahati.
The operation was initiated based on specific information. The police encountered a passenger van driven by Babul Dutta and found 87 vials filled with suspected heroin weighing approximately 97.8 grams during a search of the vehicle.
