SIVASAGAR, March 5: State education minister Ranoj Pegu and the guardian minister of Sivasagar district on Tuesday virtually laid the foundation of three school infrastructure development projects during a meeting held at the Jaysagar Sibsagar University Field in Jaysagar.
The projects are transformation of the existing infrastructure in Fuleswari Girls HS School at a cost of Rs 8 crore under NESIDS (OTRI) fund, Rs 7 crore under NABARD fund for Salaguri HS School, and Rs 7 crore under SOPD fund for Sivasagar Govt HS School.
The education minister in his address said that the BJP government has been trying to permanently solve all problems related to education, communication, health, land settlement, etc. in a rapid mode to achieve the objectives of Biksit Bharat by 2047. As part of the mission the secondary education in the state received a massive investment to the tune of Rs 2800 crores granted by the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
“The model schools in tea gardens could not solve the problems of the students there and the CM further granted Rs 10,000 crores for the development of 400 schools in the state. More than two lakh teachers have been appointed in the state so far and the dedication of the teachers has brought back the confidence of the common people in government-run schools in Assam,” said Ranoj Pegu.
The education minister also thanked the teachers and at the same time cautioned them not to skip school duties. He said that today’s India does not tolerate any corruption and every teacher must attend duties in school on time and record his presence through the digital mode.
Pegu further said that the present government has allocated Rs 500 crores for the development of libraries in at least one school in each educational block. On the medium of instruction, he said that the school textbooks will now have both L1 and English translations and those who opt for English will be free to choose. The meeting was attended by DC Sivasagar Aditya Vikram Yadav, BJP district president Mayur Borgohain and Sivasagar Municipality Board chairperson Mrinalee Konwar.
