Sonitpur, March 10: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, performed the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of a 50 MW solar project in Sonitpur district on Sunday.
The project is undertaken by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, located in Sitalmari village under Dhekiajuli Revenue Sector.
The project, costing an estimated Rs. 291 crores, will generate 101 million units of green energy in its first year, with a cumulative energy generation of about 2,319 million units over 25 years.
The energy will be supplied to Assam Power Development Corporation Limited at Rs. 3.92 per unit. Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal, MP Pallab Lochan Das, MLA Ganesh Kumar Limbu, and several officials from the Ministry of Power and SJVN.
SJVN Chairperson & Managing Director, Geeta Kapur, stated that SJVN is developing three solar projects in Assam, totaling a power capacity of 320 MW. The foundation stone for a 70 MW Solar Project in Dhubri was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2024.
SJVN, a Central Public Sector Enterprise, has commissioned thirteen projects with 2377 MW of installed capacity and aims to achieve 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030, and 50,000 MW by 2040, in alignment with the Government of India’s commitment to derive 50% of its power capacity from non-fossil-fuel-based energy sources by 2030.
