MARGHERITA, May 31: “The Cabinet decision of Assam government regarding the issue of minority certificate for the minorities such as Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Jain and Parsi is a matter of appreciation as it was a long pending demand of the minority people living in Assam,” said Subash Barua, president and Sibu Talukdar, general secretary of Federation of Barua Buddhist Welfare Association of Assam (FBBWAA).
“During the year 2015, FBBWAA wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India and minister for Minority Affairs, New Delhi regarding the issue of minority certificates and accordingly the Union minister of Minority Affairs took up the matter with the all chief secretaries of state and UTS to speed up the matter to issue minority certificate via his Office Memo No. 4-3/2-15-NCM on March 18, 2015,” said Sibu Talukdar.
“We also wrote to Tarun Gogoi, former chief minister of Assam, on July 7, 2015 to request on behalf of FBBWAA that the minority certificates should be issued either by the district administration or by the school administration to avoid any misuse,” said Subash Baruah, president and Sibu Talukdar, general secretary of Federation of Barua Buddhist Welfare Association of Assam (FBBWAA).
