DIPHU, June 6: “The BJP has divided the Karbi people. The BJP-run government is looting public money,” said general secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee.
He was addressing a poll rally in Diphu market on Monday.
Bhattacharjee was campaigning on the final day of the campaign for the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election scheduled on June 8, for Congress candidate for Lumbajong constituency Ratul Teron.
He blamed the BJP for playing politics on religious lines to divide tribes and communities. He reminded people of BJP’s past promise to implement Article 244(A) of the constitution for grant of an Autonomous State for the hill districts.
According to him, the government in Dispur is run by ‘Mama’ while KAAC is run by ‘dada’.
“Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma when he was in Congress asked for an investigation against the then Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang but now being in BJP, why is he not investigating Ronghang,” he further questioned.
Former MP, Biren Singh Engti claimed that the BJP government has sold railways and Air India to private companies. He further alleged that the BJP government has no money to run the country and will end up like Sri Lanka soon.
The Lumbajong Congress candidate, Ratul Teron also said the people need to end the BJP that is dividing the Karbis and is ending the tribal communities. “The people should vote for Congress to bring in change,” he said.
