Bodo Bijwng San celebrated across BTR

Bodo Sahitya Sabha and ABSU honour legacy of Bodo medium

KOKRAJHAR, May 18: The Bodo community, including the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), celebrated the 61st Bodo Bijwng San (Bodo Medium Day) across the state with fitting programs scheduled on Saturday to mark the introduction of the Bodo medium in Lower Primary (LP) schools.

Remarkably, the Bodo medium has excelled in its 61 years so far with the Bodo language since 1963 when it was first introduced in Lower Primary Schools to provide education through the mother tongue. The Bodo medium was introduced on May 18, 1963, in Lower Primary Schools in Kokrajhar and Dotma block in the state of Assam under the chief ministership of Bimala Prasad Chaliha.

In Kokrajhar, the district unit of Bodo Sahitya Sabha and All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) jointly celebrated the Bodo Bijwng San day at Simbargaon HS School playground in Kokrajhar to mark the glorious 61-year journey of the Bodo medium in the state. Bijel Kumar Basumatary, president of the Kokrajhar district unit of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, hoisted the Sabha flag on the occasion followed by floral tributes to the martyrs. Bodo Sahitya Sabha secretary, Sahen Brahma, and ex-vice president, Gopinath Borgoyary, were guests of honour on the occasion.

Coinciding with the Bodo Bijwng San celebration, a felicitation program for the passing out students of HSLC and HS final examinations was organised at the main campus of UN Academy, Kokrajhar. The chief executive member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro, graced the occasion as the chief guest, which was organised by UN Academy, Kokrajhar.

CEM Boro extended warm congratulations to all passing out students of both HSLC and HS final examinations, stating that today’s students are the future of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). He mentioned that the government of BTR is working dedicatedly towards the welfare and upliftment of the educational environment across the region since its inception in BTR government.

On the occasion of Bodo Bijwng San, CEM Boro remarked that the Bodo medium has excelled in its 61-year journey, providing Bodo medium background students with opportunities to receive education in their mother tongue.

Assam cabinet and Sahitya Akademi award winner, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, ABSU president Dipen Boro, also extended warm congratulations on the occasion of Bodo Bijwng San.

In Chirang, the primary committees of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha celebrated the Bodo Bijwng San across the district with fitting programs. The district committees of Baksa, Tamulpur, and Udalguri also organised the Bodo Bijwng San with various programs.
