GUWAHATI, July 9: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway continues its efforts to curb the activities of touts and thefts from passengers. During checks and drives conducted from June 16 to 30, 2024, the RPF apprehended 3 touts and recovered railway tickets valued at over Rs 95,000. Additionally, 17 individuals involved in the theft of passenger belongings were apprehended during this period.
The operations involved coordinated raids with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police stations wherever necessary. A total of 34 tickets worth Rs 95,219.55 were recovered during these drives and raids. All apprehended persons have been prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Railways Act.
In a specific incident on June 27, 2024, the RPF team of Rangiya conducted a raid at ‘NH Enterprise’ in Kharupetia town, recovering 18 e-tickets worth approximately Rs 59,192.10 and apprehending one tout. A case has been registered under Section 143 of the Railways Act at Rangapara North for further legal action.
Earlier, on June 16, 2024, the RPF team of Katihar, in collaboration with the CPDS team of Katihar, conducted checks on train no 15909 at Katihar Railway Station, apprehending three individuals and recovering three stolen mobile phones worth approximately Rs 45,000. The apprehended persons and recovered items were handed over to the respective GRP for further legal proceedings.
Apart from monitoring unauthorised ticket sales, the RPF of NF Railway remains committed to providing assistance and security to rail users.
