During the session, DDM NABARD, Rajendar Perna, informed the gathering that promoting the Off-Farm Sector is a key part of NABARD’s mission, emphasising the need to reduce rural India’s dependence on agricultural income and encourage alternative livelihood options. He added that NABARD has been promoting skill-building and entrepreneurship in rural areas through various programs like Micro Enterprise Development Programmes (MEDPs), Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programmes (LEDPs), and Skill Development Programmes (SDPs) for wage/self-employment. He also shared that during the event, participants received extensive training for over 400 hours, and ten of the best trainees have already been selected for apprenticeships at the DCNEL plant in Lanka.

ADC Hojai, Dr Sonashree Brahma, inaugurated the event and, in her speech, highlighted the significant demand for professionally trained electricians in the region, encouraging trainees to build on the skills acquired during the training. She also suggested that trainees consider setting up their own shops and congratulated NABARD and DBF for organising the training for rural youth.

Mrinal Baruah, DGM-HR of the DCNEL plant, motivated participants by urging them to overcome obstacles in their path to success and shared inspirational stories of renowned figures. He also requested NABARD to consider sanctioning more such programs.
