Amrit Stations redevelopment on fast track across NFR

GUWAHATI, Aug 29: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making swift progress in redeveloping 91 stations within its network under the prestigious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). This initiative, part of Indian Railways’ broader vision to transform the passenger experience, aims to upgrade infrastructure and amenities, ensuring a modern and comfortable environment for railway passengers.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is designed to enhance the overall experience of passengers by modernising station buildings, improving access, and providing state-of-the-art facilities. Stations like Kamakhya, Rangiya, Rangapara North, Dhubri, Lumding, New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Diphu, Barsoi, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, New Alipurduar, Rangpo, Agartala, Udaipur, Mendipathar, Dimapur, Naharlagun, among others, are undergoing transformation to achieve the highest standards of quality infrastructural work within stipulated timelines.

Some ongoing works include the construction of foot overbridges (FOBs) for better connectivity and accessibility, development of station circulating areas, additional covered parking sheds for both two and four-wheelers, modern toilets for common and Divyangjan passengers, shop complexes, improved waiting areas, and spacious areas with advanced ticketing systems at stations like New Mal Junction, Kokrajhar, Fakiragram, Hasimara, Dhubri, Gossaigaon Hat, Gauripur, Dhupguri, Dinhata, Dalgaon, Binnaguri, Jalpaiguri Road, Kamakhyaguri, Lanka, Hojai, Chaparmukh, and others. All 91 stations under NFR will receive these upgrades, including the installation of CCTV cameras, better lighting, and improved crowd management systems to ensure a safer environment.

Sustainability is a key focus, with plans for energy-efficient lighting, rainwater harvesting systems, and the use of eco-friendly materials. Upgraded parking areas, enhanced station facades, and beautified local art and culture reflecting the rich heritage of the region will create a welcoming atmosphere for railway passengers.
