NAGAON, July 5: As part of the ongoing celebration of the 73th ‘Van Mahotsav’ across the state, Nagaon Forest Divisions (Territory, wildlife and Social forestry) in association with district administration as well as Nagaon Lions Club on Tuesday ceremonially conducted a tree plantation drive at Nagaon Borghat bypass Chariali.
During the drive, the department concerned as well as Lions Club planted over thousand various local trees containing fruits in the welcome park constructed by Nagaon Lions Club at Borghat bypass Chariali. Besides, the department concerned also planted other saplings of various flowers species with enclosures and nets for beautification at the entry point towards the small town near the road circle.

Similarly, the department concerned also distributed saplings of various local trees containing fruits and flowers among the local people and students and urged them to lead a massive plantation in and around their respective homes to keep a greenery environment so that the flora and fauna can be sustained in their localities. Simultaneously, the department concerned also took initiatives to distribute saplings of various local trees among students in almost all range offices under the division during the day and pledged them to plant more trees in the campus of their respective educational institutions.
Earlier, a sensitisation programme on eco-friendly environment was also organised at Nagaon Borghat bypass. Dr Sarat Borkatoki, principal of Nowgong College (autonomous) chaired the programme while deputy commissioner, Nagaon Nisarg Hivare graced the occasion as chief guest.
Divisional Forest officer, Nagaon Bhaskar Deka, ACF N Nandi, range officers Kailyani Malakar, Nepal Mandal, newly elected president of Nagaon Lions Club Malchand Agarwal, secretary Saranga Ballabh Goswami, Pralay Shaha, Ajoy Mittal, Biswajit Mahanta and over 150 students from Nagaon Kolong Kapili Senior Secondary School were present in the programme.
While addressing the occasion, Bhaskar Deka, DFO, Nagaon said that the department concerned would carry out the drive not for just a day for just name sake, rather it dedicated to the mission for a better environment in and around the small town and for that the department concerned would leave no stone unturned to protect the trees planted today in the days to come.
