Four Assam chess officials appointed to AICF key committees

GUWAHATI, Sept 16: In a significant development for chess in Assam, four prominent officials from the All Assam Chess Association have been appointed to prestigious committees of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) during a Special General Body meeting held on 12th September 2024 in New Delhi.
Rajib Dhar, General Secretary of the All Assam Chess Association, has been named the Chairman of the Events Committee of AICF. In addition, Dhar will serve as a Member of the Committee for Chess Development in North East and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Mukuta Deka, President of the Guwahati City Chess Association, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Chess in Schools Commission.
Dr. Charvak, Vice President of the All Assam Chess Association, will serve as a Member of the Arbiters Commission as well as the SOP Draft Committee of the AICF.
Arindam Baruah, Secretary of Kamrup District Chess Association, has been appointed a Member of the Tender Committee of the AICF.
This recognition of Assam’s chess officials highlights the growing influence of the state within the national chess community. The appointments reflect the increasing prominence of Assam in the development and governance of chess in India.
Kandrapa Kalita, President of the All Assam Chess Association, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Rajib Dhar, Mukuta Deka, Dr. Charvak, and Arindam Baruah on their appointments, expressing confidence that they will contribute significantly to the promotion of chess in India.
The appointments mark a new chapter for Assam in Indian chess, underscoring the region’s growing clout in the national chess landscape.
