Varsha Vaas (Raining Retreat) is an auspicious festival for the Buddhist community, during which monks, shramans, and gurumaas of Buddha Vihar do not stay outside for three months, as they are required to remain at their respective Buddha Vihar.

On Thursday, at Margherita Buddha Vihar, after the conclusion of Varsha Vaas, the holy ‘Pravarana Purnima’ festival was celebrated with a grand ceremony, where more than 100 upasaks and upasikas (devotees) gathered at Margherita Buddha Vihar to pray to Lord Buddha.

Gyanowada Bhikkhu, the head monk of Margherita Buddha Vihar, said that according to the Buddhist calendar, the three-month Varsha Vaas (Raining Retreat) is a holy and auspicious festival for Buddhist devotees around the world. During this period, they give alms and donations at Buddha Vihars and to all downtrodden people living in nearby areas.

Gyanowada Bhikkhu also mentioned that after the three-month Varsha Vaas, the Kathin Civar Daan Utsav follows, celebrated at every Buddha Vihar. On October 19 and 20, Kathin Civar Daan Utsav will be celebrated at Margherita Buddha Vihar with a grand ceremony.
