SIVASAGAR, Oct 28: The three-phase entrepreneurship development program for 620 beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan, held at Sivasagar Commerce College, concluded on Monday. In the final phase, 120 beneficiaries received training on agriculture, fishery, service sector, and various other subjects. Inaugurating the program, speaker Manoj Kumar Borthakur said that one must have self-belief to tread unexplored paths and establish oneself in life, regardless of their background. The abandoned low-lying swamps of Nagaon and other districts have been transformed into gold-yielding fisheries by industrious settlers from erstwhile East Pakistan, and now we, the indigenous people, are envious of them, he added. Under the scheme, the state government is providing Rs 2 lakh to each selected entrepreneur, of which Rs 75 thousand has already been released for graduates, ITI pass-outs, diploma holders, polytechnic pass-outs, and others. For professional degree holders, the government is providing Rs 5 lakh to each eligible candidate.
Dr Saumerjyoti Mahanta, principal of Sivasagar Commerce College, delivered the welcome address and expressed hope that the participants would utilise the generous government aid for self-employment and contribute to the national economy. Tushar Pratim Gohain, district industry officer, urged participants to engage in nation-building through self-empowerment.
In earlier sessions, Dr Ratul Dutta, Dr Pradip Gogoi, Dr Pankaj J Hazarika, and Prof Kauranga Borgohain lectured on the topic, ‘How to Identify Business Opportunities’.
