Three More JE Deaths Take Toll To 16

GUWAHATI, July 13: As many as six fresh cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) were reported from Assam on Wednesday and three persons succumbed to the deadly viral disease, according to a Government report.

With this, the toll has risen to 121 cases with 16 deaths so far.

On Wednesday, one case was reported from Dibrugarh, 3 from Dhemaji and 2 from Morigaon. Among the three deceased, two were from Karimganj and one from Sivasagar.

The State had reported three deaths and 17 new JE cases on Tuesday.

A review meeting on JE and AES situation in Assam was held under the chairmanship of State Health minister Keshab Mahanta in the presence of principal secretary – Health, Avinash Joshi IAS, Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, IAS, mission director, NHM Assam, Dr. Anup Kr. Barman, director of Medical Education, Kamaljit Talukdar, ACS, DHS (FW), Dr. Manoj Kr. Choudhury, executive director, NHM Assam, Pankaj Chamuah, ACS, OSD NHM Assam and other State Health officials, at NHM Assam HQ on Wednesday.
The Health minister is scheduled to have a detailed district-wise review on Thursday on the current AES/JE cases to initiate further course of action.
