ATASU leads torch procession

SIVASAGAR, Nov 21: The Sivasagar unit of ATASU on Wednesday evening took out a massive torch procession in Sivasagar, defying police restraints, in protest against the alleged neglect by the BJP towards the Ahoms and the non-fulfillment of its commitment to granting ST status to them, along with five other commitments in Assam.

The procession, led by Basanta Gogoi, president of ATASU, Biki Rani Mohan Barua, president of Ahom Mahila Parishad, Pari Gogoi, executive president of Mahila Parishad, Mousam Buragohain, ATASU executive member, Debajit Changmai, district secretary, Borasa Changmai, Lalit Chetia, and Pranjal Gogoi, blamed the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government for neglecting the community, which has a population of over 55 lakh.
