DIPHU, Feb 28: Karbi Anglong paid rich floral tributes to their former leader, late Semson Sing Ingti, who set the light for the creation of modern Karbi Anglong, on his 77th death anniversary on Friday.
Late Ingti, the first general Secretary of Karbi Adorbar, was the forefront leader demanding the creation of a separate administrative set-up for the Karbis by creating United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district in 1947, now present Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. He (Ingti) is regarded as a modern Karbi leader.

Various institutions and social organisations observed the day by recalling the life and work of the late Ingti.
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) organised a commemoration programme at Old Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park. The programme began with an all religion prayer meeting like reading of Bible, Gita path, Guru Granth Sahib, Kirtan Path, Kataram and Lokhimon.
Participating as the chief guest, the chief executive member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang paid floral tribute at the statue of late Ingti. Other dignitaries, including the chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso and deputy chairman, Avijit Kro; executive member (EMs), MAC and MLAs also paid rich floral tributes to late Ingti.
In his speech, the CEM stated that the life and works of late Ingti could not be described in a few lines. Late Ingti sacrificed the job of Inspector of Schools (IS) to form Karbi Adorbar (KA), which has led the movement for the creation of a separate administrative set-up of United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district. He (Ingti) is regarded as a modern Karbi leader.
He is one of the great leaders of the Karbis who had contributed immensely towards social uplift and reformation, ultimately demanding the creation of United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district, the movement which started in 1947, said the CEM. Late Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) and late Semson Sing Ingti were the first president and general secretary of Karbi Adorbar respectively, CEM said.
“The Karbi Adorbar was formed in 1946, and two years later, he passed away. Though his life was short, within a span of two years, his works were immense. Through the leadership of the late Ingti, the Karbi Adorbar submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam at Mohongdijua and at Lanka and Lumding and met the officials on various occasions. I pray to the almighty God to shower abundant blessings, good health and prosperity to the family members and relatives of late Ingti. Due to his sacrifice, we could have our land to live on,” the CEM said.
Earlier, Padmashree Dhaneswar Ingti narrated the early life and social reformation brought by the works of late Ingti.
On the occasion, the art & culture department of KAAC organised on-the-spot painting and drawing competition on the portrait of late Ingti for school students of Class V to Class VII. The competition was judged by artist Deben Timung.
Immediately after the competition ended, a prize distribution ceremony was held, where the family members of late Ingti gave away the prizes. First prize was bagged by Alir Singnarpi, second by Jeanne Singh and third by Star Kangjang Terang of Badan Memorial HS School.
Consolation prizes were also given to Medhi Saikia of Erudite Academy and Gyan Jyoti Pator of Atur Kimi Academy.
Tribal culture research officer, KAAC, Dilip Kathar and others also attended the function.
