Arunachal minister flags off 1st ever Subansiri Marathon

ITANAGAR, March 1: The urban affairs and land management minister who is also the guardian minister of Upper Subansiri district Balo Raja on Saturday flagged off first-ever Subansiri Marathon on Saturday.

While lauding the theme of the marathon run, minister Balo Raja said that people should do something better for the society so that society could recognize their works. The marathon has been organised under the motto “Zero Drug and Swachh Upper Subansiri” to promote a healthy, drug-free, and clean society.

Minister Raja highlighted the importance of sports in keeping youth engaged in productive activities and shy away from drug abuse. He emphasized the need of daily exercise to be fit and with a healthy body and sound mind.

He appealed to the youths to stay away from drug and live in a clean and green environment to remain healthy and maintain long life.

Upper Subansiri district mentor secretary Nyali Ete, appreciated the efforts of the organisers in bringing the community together for a noble cause, while deputy commissioner Tasso Gambo emphasised the need for collective action toward a cleaner and drug-free district.

The marathon saw overwhelming enthusiasm from runners of all age groups, including the personnel from Assam Rifle, security personnel, officers from district administration and civil society and business community making it a landmark event for the district.
