Civil defense mock drill in all 8 Tripura districts tomorrow: Revenue Secretary

AGARTALA, May 6: Tripura Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey today said that the Tripura government will hold the Civil Defence Mock Drill across the eight districts of the state tomorrow at 3.30 pm.

Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, the official said that Civil Defence in India was constituted under the Civil Defence Act, 1968, with the objective of safeguarding life and property and ensuring public safety during hostile attacks and disasters.

“As per the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, a comprehensive Civil Defence Mock Drill will be conducted on 7th May 2025 in all districts of Tripura. The District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and District Civil Defence Corps will coordinate the drill with active participation from various emergency and disaster response stakeholders. The objective of this mock drill is to assess the preparedness, efficacy, and coordination among civil defence units and allied agencies in responding to hostile attacks and emergencies. The drill will include testing the alert systems, evacuation procedures, public safety measures, and inter-agency coordination,” he said.

He said that the trained Civil Defence Volunteers are spread across all the districts. The Civil Defence Volunteers act as front runners for crisis response along with other key responders in the state. These volunteers will participate in the mock drill.

“The Civil Defence drill will focus on dissemination of air raid warnings, evacuation procedures and rescue operations, first aid and medical assistance, fire-fighting, and restoration of essential services,” said the official.

He said that the main objective is to check how the state is prepared and can create coordination among various agencies during emergency and crisis periods.

West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, who was also present in the press conference, said that in Agartala the drill will be held at Umakanta School involving NCC, TSR, Home Guards, Apada Mitra, medical units, and Tripura Fire and Emergency Services.

“The drill will start at 3.30 pm and conclude at 6.30 pm. The siren will be used at 4 pm and another at 5.30 pm,” he said.
