9-year-old Binita Chetry from Karbi Anglong makes history on Britain’s Got Talent

DIPHU, May 26: Binita Chetry, a 9-year-old dance prodigy from Amrajan in Bokajan, Karbi Anglong, Assam, has made history by becoming the first contestant from Northeast India to reach the finals of the prestigious reality show Britain’s Got Talent (BGT).

Daughter of Amar Chetry, Binita captured the hearts of millions with her electrifying semi-final performance, which featured a dynamic fusion of dance and martial arts-inspired movements. Her powerful routine, marked by precision, emotion, and fearless energy, earned a standing ovation from the judges and secured the public vote, propelling her into the grand finale scheduled for May 31.

The judges were awestruck by her unique performance. Bruno Tonioli likened her to a “tiger with the strength of a python,” while Alesha Dixon said she was “lost for words,” amazed by Binita’s originality and stage presence.

Congratulatory messages poured in from across the region. Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, took to Facebook to express his pride and support, writing:
“Huge congratulations to 9-year-old Binita Chetry from Bokajan, Karbi Anglong, for making history as the first Northeast Indian to reach the Britain’s Got Talent 2025 finals! Her incredible dance performance secured the public vote. I also extend my best wishes to her for the grand finale on May 31st!”
