Young Karbi doctor and YouTuber electrocuted at home

DIPHU, July 4: Dr Ruplin Rongpipi, a 26-year-old physician and popular YouTuber from West Karbi Anglong, died on Thursday evening after suffering an electric shock at her residence near Dongkamukam High School under Baithalangso Police Station.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 7 pm on July 3, during heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning in the area. Dr Rongpipi was reportedly electrocuted while attempting to unplug an inverter connection at her home.

She was rushed to the Dongkamukam Primary Health Centre, where she was declared brought dead.

Dr Rongpipi was serving as a Community Health Officer (CHO) at Kro Kengdang Primary Health Centre in Lower Amri.

She was also widely known for her YouTube channel Ruplin Diary – Sarpi Kehai, which had earned her a large following for content rooted in local culture and community issues.

Condolences poured in following her sudden demise.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a message shared on social media, wrote, “I am very saddened to hear that Dr Rupalin Rongpipi, a promising doctor, died in a tragic accident in Dongkamukam, West Karbi Anglong. I share my grief and condolences with the bereaved family members in this difficult time. The Karbi community will always remember the contribution made by Dr. Rupalin Rongpipi.”

Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, also expressed his grief.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Dr. Ruplin Rongpipi of Dongkamukam, whose untimely passing is a great loss to our community. As a doctor, she served with dedication, and as a well-known YouTuber of Ruplin Diary – Sarpi Kehai, she touched many lives through her online presence,” he said.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the local community, which mourns the loss of a young life committed to public service and cultural expression.
