NAMSAI, June 5: Highlighting the growing importance of environmental preservation in promoting tourism, Itanagar Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu has called for collective action to protect forests, wildlife, and the natural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
His remarks came while addressing officials, community leaders, and members of the Keyi Valley Tourism Society (KVTS) at an event on Wednesday.
Speaking at the programme, DC Babu said that the global discourse on climate change and environmental degradation has made it imperative to link tourism development with ecological conservation.
“If we want to promote tourism and join the global community in combating climate change, it is essential to protect, promote, and preserve our environment and forests,” he said.
He emphasized that environmental awareness must begin at home, and called on every citizen to avoid deforestation, engage in plantation activities, and promote afforestation.
Referring to Arunachal Pradesh’s rich forest cover and abundant biodiversity, DC Babu noted that the state is known across the country for its natural beauty and resources.
“The presence of multiple organisations and NGOs working in the areas of tourism, environment, and forest conservation is encouraging. However, the momentum must be sustained, and every stakeholder must understand the harmful impacts of global warming,” he added.
DC Babu also stressed the need for grassroots-level awareness and suggested that plantation drives and environmental protection initiatives should begin in homes, schools, offices, and workplaces.
He urged citizens across the state to take responsibility for safeguarding the region’s ecological wealth.
The event was attended by Keyi Panyor ADC Likha Tejji, EAC Neelam Teji, several departmental officers, and executive members of KVTS.
KVTS Chairman Likha Tejji and Secretary Nyelam Tat informed that this was the second edition of their environmental and tourism awareness programme.
Following the successful completion of the first edition, the second aims to tap into the tourism potential of Keyi Valley through public discussions, awareness campaigns, trekking expeditions, and eco-tourism activities.
They said efforts are being made to attract tourists heading to Ziro by showcasing the valley’s natural charm and cultural heritage.
On the occasion, DC Toko Babu launched the event jersey and flagged off the Keyi Valley expedition bike rally, marking the start of a series of awareness and eco-tourism activities aimed at fostering a sustainable tourism model for the district.
