KHERONI, June 22: In a major breakthrough for regional security, ten members of the newly-formed militant outfit Dimasa Halan Dui United (DHD-U) surrendered before the Assam Police in Dhansiri under Karbi Anglong district, signalling their intent to return to the mainstream.

The surrender was facilitated under the supervision of Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Saikia, APS, following a sustained intelligence-based operation initiated in April.

Acting on reports that DHD-U was mobilising to revive an underground separatist movement in the hill districts, security forces launched a coordinated effort to track the group’s activities.

During the operation, police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the group.

The seizure included one AK-47 rifle, three pistols, a grenade and several rounds of live ammunition.

Speaking on the development, SP Saikia credited the surrender to effective intelligence coordination and constant monitoring.

“This surrender reflects our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Karbi Anglong,” he said, adding that the investigation is ongoing and efforts will continue to prevent any disruption to regional harmony.

The DHD-U, comprising mostly youths from the Dimasa tribal community, had reportedly begun recruiting new members and stockpiling weapons.

Security officials believe that the early interception of the group’s plans has averted a potential resurgence of armed militancy in the hill districts.

The police view the surrender as a significant deterrent to other insurgent outfits and a reaffirmation of their commitment to ensuring law and order in the region.
