DIPHU, Feb 14: The Dhansiri Jalai Khurang Hoshom has organised a central Bisu Dima celebration at Dhansiri Sports Association (DSA) playground on Monday. The Bisu Dima is a post harvesting festival of the Dimasa community. It is the biggest festival of the community celebrating with joyfulness and merry making after the hard earned paddy and other agriculture crops are harvested and brought home.
At DSA, the grounds look colourful with the traditional attire worn by men and women, youths and children alike. There were stalls with sales of judima – Dimasa rice beer and roasted fish, chicken and pork. There were other traditional items on sale, where large visitors thronged to these stalls to buy the home prepared items.
Attending as chief guest MLA Bidyasing Engleng praised the land of Dhansiri valley with sufficient water and high production of paddy and other crops.
Engleng said, “According to my knowledge Dhansiri – means a stock of wealth (dhan bhoral). There is sufficient water with an irrigation facility. Production of paddy is high. A railway junction has come up at Dhansiri and Diphu-Dhansiri road with a width of 5.5. metres will be improved. This is the initiative of me, an initiative of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. It should be completed by next year in Bihu.”
He also said the ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) has started drilling for oil in Dhansiri. If the company gets oil here than the people of Dhansiri valley, not only Dimasas but all communities like Karbis, Garos, Adivasis, Kukis, Nepalis, Bengalis and Biharis will economically be developed.
The MLA also said the Bisu Dima is a restricted holiday in the KAAC calendar, but efforts will be made to declare it as a government holiday from next year.
Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Dhansiri, Tilutoma Hasnu said Bisu Dima said on Bisu Dima day people cannot go from one village as it is celebrated in every village. The centrally organised Bisu Dima is organised so that people can come and celebrate together. She also said Jalai Khurang Hoshom has urged the CEM, KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang for construction of a permanent structure at Dhansiri for holding of central Bisu Dima. The Dimasa people are confident that the demand will be made for the preservation and promotion of Dimasa culture.
A cultural demonstration was also performed by various communities and tribes like Dimasas, Karbis, Adivasis, Nepalis, Bengalis, Garos and others.
Executive Member, KAAC, D. Uphing Maslai and MAC Phenpiga H Rengma and other dignitaries were present.
