The official notification, issued on Friday by State Returning Officer Samarendra Ch Deb, outlines the complete election process in line with the party’s Constitution and the guidelines of the Central Election Authority.

According to the timeline, the list of the state electoral college was published on Friday.

Nomination papers are to be submitted on June 28, followed by scrutiny and withdrawal of nominations on the same day. The final list of candidates will also be released by the end of June 28.

“If required, polling will take place on June 29, with counting of votes and declaration of results scheduled for the same day,” stated the notification.

The election comes at a crucial juncture for the Tripura BJP as it prepares to consolidate its organisational machinery ahead of upcoming political battles.

Rajib Bhattacharya, the current Tripura BJP president and the party’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, assumed charge on August 25, 2022.

He succeeded Manik Saha, who became the state party president in 2020 before taking over as chief minister.

The leadership contest is being closely watched in political circles, with anticipation over who will steer the party’s next phase in the northeastern state.

The development also highlights BJP’s adherence to internal democratic processes within the party’s ranks.
