TEZPUR, June 28: Minister for Water Resources, Information and Public Relations and Guardian Minister of Sonitpur district, Pijush Hazarika chaired a review meeting on Saturday at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tezpur to assess the progress of various government welfare schemes in the district.
The minister took detailed stock of key state initiatives including the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Assam Abhijan 2.0, Orunodoi 3.0, and the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Abhijan.
He directed officials to maintain vigilant monitoring of the schemes initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure their effective and timely implementation.
Emphasising transparency and accountability, the minister further instructed that benefits from these schemes must be extended strictly to eligible beneficiaries.
The meeting was attended by Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rabha, Barchala MLA Ganesh Kumar Limbu, Rangapara MLA Krishna Kamal Tanti, Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Ankur Bharali, and officials from various departments under the district administration.
Later in the day, Minister Hazarika visited Borachuburi in Da-Parbatia under the Tezpur Assembly Constituency to inspect the damage caused by severe flooding and erosion resulting from a new channel of the Brahmaputra river.
During his visit, he interacted with local residents and reviewed the ground situation.
The minister instructed engineers of the Water Resources Department to expedite anti-erosion measures in the affected area and take urgent steps to close the newly formed channel.
Officials noted that once closed, the channel’s obstruction is expected to make several flood-prone areas under the Tezpur Assembly Constituency—including Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, the ITBP base, and parts of the Barchala constituency—flood-free.
