BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 7: A critical surgical procedure was successfully carried out on a four-year-old girl at Composite Hospital SSB, Salonibari, after she sustained a severe hand injury while playing at SSB Pre-Primary School.
According to an official statement issued by the hospital, the girl, identified as Komol Thakur, daughter of Roshan Thakur and a resident of Ghoroimari, suffered a complete crush injury on the middle finger of her right hand when it got trapped in a door buckle.

She was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department, where bleeding was brought under control, and she was immediately administered IV antibiotics and analgesics.
Following initial stabilisation, an X-ray was conducted, which revealed a complete displacement and fracture of the terminal phalanx, along with severe soft tissue damage and nail bed avulsion.
The medical team promptly moved her to the operation theatre, where the injured area was surgically treated under short general anaesthesia.
The fractured part was stabilised and fixed.
Hospital authorities noted that operating on a child as young as four poses significant anaesthetic and surgical challenges.
However, the surgery was successful, and the child is currently in a stable condition and recovering well.
