KOKRAJHAR, July 11: Meghnath Muchahary, a veteran character actor in Bodo cinema and a retired teacher, passed away at his residence in Kokrajhar town on Thursday around 3 PM.
He was 70 and had been suffering from age-related ailments.
Muchahary was widely respected in Bodo cultural circles for his contributions to the arts, education, and community welfare.
He gained recognition for his performances in several Bodo films, including a notable role in Alayaron, the first-ever Bodo feature film, which holds a special place in the history of regional cinema.
A teacher by profession, Muchahary retired from Kokrajhar Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.
Beyond the classroom and the screen, he was deeply involved in social service and community initiatives.
He was a founding member of the Bodo Somaj and played an active role in its activities, contributing significantly to the uplift and welfare of the Bodo society.

The Bodo Cultural Society and Bodo Somaj expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences, remembering him as a towering figure whose legacy spanned cinema, education, and social reform.
