SIVASAGAR, July 16: The Sivasagar district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday evening organised a thanksgiving march in support of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ongoing eviction drive aimed at clearing thousands of bighas of land from alleged illegal encroachers.
Led by party leader Bitopan Raidongia, BJP workers took out a procession from Boarding Field to the historic Sivadoul premises, raising slogans in favour of the state government’s land reclamation initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Raidongia launched a sharp attack on Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, accusing him of siding with illegal encroachers. Referring to Gogoi derisively as “Chuma Mia” Gogoi, he called for stricter action against those unlawfully occupying government land.
He appealed to the people of Assam to stand behind the government’s efforts to reclaim land, stating that the eviction drive was essential for safeguarding the state’s resources and ensuring justice for rightful landholders.
