DIPHU, July 18: Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang and MP Amarsing Tisso flagged off the inaugural stoppage of the Rajdhani Express at Diphu Railway Station late on Thursday, marking the resumption of the halt discontinued since the COVID-19 pandemic.
CEM Ronghang expressed gratitude to MP Tisso for his initiative in restoring the stoppage and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their support.

MP Tisso highlighted that among the 60 railway stations in the Northeast, 50 are in Assam, and said Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao were fortunate to have stations in Diphu and Haflong.
He also mentioned that Diphu Railway Station is being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of ₹100 crore, which will include a waiting shed and other facilities.
Briefing the media, Tisso said he had personally met the Prime Minister, the Railway Minister, the Assam Chief Minister, and the CEM of KAAC, and thanked all Northeast MPs for their support in facilitating the Rajdhani stoppage.
Divisional Railway Manager of NF Railway, Lumding Division, Samir Lohani, who attended the ceremony, said the move would boost regional connectivity and ease travel for students, professionals, and senior citizens.
As per the new schedule, train No. 12423 (Down Rajdhani) will halt at Diphu at 11:21 PM, while train No 12424 (Up Rajdhani) will halt at 2:24 AM, with a two-minute stop each.
The flag-off event was also attended by KAAC Chairman Raju Tisso, MLA Darsing Ronghang, KAAC Executive Members, MACs, and Deputy Commissioner Nirola Phangchopi.
