Plans finalised for science centres in Namsai and Dirang

NAMSAI, July 21: In a significant move to enhance science education infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, a meeting was held on July 21 at the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in Kolkata to finalise the architectural drawings for proposed Category-II Science Centres and Planetariums in Namsai and Dirang.

According to an official statement, the meeting brought together representatives from the NCSM, Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCST), and the architectural firm Kothari & Associates.

The session began with a welcome address by the Director of NCSM, followed by opening remarks from Er Tage Taki, Chairman of APSCST.

He stressed the strategic importance of Arunachal Pradesh and the limited civil construction season from September to March, highlighting the relevance of the proposed centres in Namsai (Eastern Zone) and Dirang (Western Zone) in addition to the existing centre in Itanagar (Central Zone).

Er Taki also urged NCSM to continue supporting efforts to bring these facilities up to national standards.

Chief Architect Bimal Mistry of Kothari & Associates presented the architectural drawings, with proposed covered areas of 2,933.50 sq mt for the Namsai centre and 2,958 sq mt for the Dirang facility.

The plans were accepted in principle during the meeting. NCSM approved all requests made by APSCST and assured that the projects would be expedited to meet the scheduled timeline.
