ITANAGAR, Aug 8: The Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre on Friday witnessed the flag-off of the Mobile Science Exhibition (Lab-on-Wheels), an initiative aimed at taking interactive science learning directly to schools and communities.
The programme is being organised under the aegis of the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T) in collaboration with the National Science Centre, Guwahati, as part of the flagship outreach programme of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Kolkata.
The ceremony was graced by Dr Tage Taki, Chairman, APSCS&T, accompanied by Er C D Mungyak, Director-cum-Member Secretary, APSCS&T, and Nabam Hina Sera, Block Education Officer, DDSE, ICR.
Officials and staff from DBT-CoEBRSD, APSCS&T, and Science Centre were also present.
Often described as a “museum on wheels”, the Mobile Science Exhibition is equipped with 20 interactive exhibits based on everyday machines.
It aims to ignite curiosity towards science, enable learning of scientific principles through hands-on experiments, promote a scientific culture and STEM career pathways, and complement the school science curriculum with accessible science education.
The programme began with introductory remarks from Er C D Mungyak, underscoring the role of experiential science education in cultivating inquisitive minds.
Dr Vivek Kumar, Curator, Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, briefed the gathering on the scope and agenda of the Mobile Science Exhibition.
In his address, Chairman Dr Tage Taki said that “curiosity is the spark of knowledge” and stressed that equipping students with the tools and mindset to explore can nurture future innovators.
Nabam Hina Sera highlighted the importance of balancing theoretical knowledge with practical, inquiry-based learning to better prepare students for real-world challenges.
Following the speeches, the dignitaries jointly cut the ribbon and flagged off the specially designed bus. Students from Govt Secondary School, ESS Sector, Itanagar, accompanied by their teachers, participated in the event and interacted with the exhibits.
The Mobile Science Exhibition will run from August 8 to September 17, 2025, visiting various schools in the Itanagar Capital Region to give students an opportunity to engage with science beyond the classroom.
