IMPHAL, JULY 22: Manipur Police have arrested two youths in relation to a reported sexual assault from Tellou Mayai Leikai, which comes under the territorial jurisdiction of Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district. They have been arrested after a complaint was filed by the victim’s family, as confirmed by police on Tuesday.
The police moved fast after the complaint and picked up the suspects from various areas within the district on Sunday evening. The case has been under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which was amended by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The accused were subsequently named as Kshtrimayum Ajoy (20), a local of Tellou Mayai Leikai, and Mangsatabam Ajay (21), who hails from Nongada Kameng Khunjao—both in Imphal East district. Government officials confirmed that the arrested have been taken into judicial custody and are being investigated further under the applicable provisions of the law. Police also confirmed that the victim’s identity has been kept secret, strictly following legal procedures to ensure the safety of sexual violence survivors.
