DIPHU, July 22: In a key initiative aimed at strengthening the agrarian economy of Cachar ahead of the upcoming Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024–25, Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav chaired a high-level meeting with key stakeholders on Tuesday to ensure an organised, transparent, and farmer-friendly paddy procurement process.
The meeting, held at the district headquarters, brought together senior officials from the Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs (FPD&CA) Department, the Agriculture Office, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), as well as representatives from farmers’ and millers’ associations.
The discussions focused on infrastructure preparedness, timely procurement, quality control, and improved coordination to avoid procedural delays.
According to an official statement issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, DC Yadav emphasised the administration’s commitment to protecting farmers’ interests by ensuring the smooth implementation of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism and eliminating hurdles in the procurement and offloading of produce.
The meeting was also attended by Additional District Commissioner (Agriculture) Roktim Baruah, Branch Officer (FPD&CA) Junali Devi, officials from FPD&CA Cachar and FCI Silchar, and key members of the farmers and millers associations.
DC Yadav called for close coordination between departments to meet procurement targets effectively, while upholding transparency and efficiency in every stage of the process.
He also reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to turn this year’s procurement drive into a model of responsive governance in support of the farming community.
The session concluded with a collective pledge to work in synergy to ensure that Cachar’s farmers receive timely and fair returns for their produce, reinforcing the district administration’s sustained efforts to empower the rural economy.
