DIPHU, July 25: In view of the ongoing eviction drive against illegal immigrants in Dhubri and Goalpara districts, Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Numal Momin recently visited the Bokajan Railway Station in Karbi Anglong district to assess the ground situation and review preventive measures.
According to an official report, the visit was prompted by concerns that individuals displaced due to the eviction operations might attempt to settle in other regions of the state, including Bokajan.

During his visit, Momin held a review meeting with officers from Bokajan Police Station and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
He directed the officials to maintain heightened vigilance at transit points and to closely monitor all arrivals in the region.
Meanwhile, the Karbi Students Association (KSA), Diphu District Committee, has also issued an alert urging villagers and village headmen to remain cautious and to report any suspicious movement or unfamiliar individuals in their localities to the authorities.
At a press conference, KSA-DDC president Sonasing Rongpi expressed concerns that people displaced by the eviction drive may attempt to settle in various parts of Karbi Anglong, including areas such as Bakulia, Manja, Borlangpher, and along the Dimapur road.
He called on villagers to remain watchful and to coordinate with the Village Defence Parties (VDPs) and village authorities to report any suspected cases of infiltration.
Highlighting the importance of proactive community involvement, Rongpi urged local residents to track movement of unknown individuals in their areas.
He cited demographic changes in districts like Dhubri as a cautionary example and emphasised the need for vigilance to protect the socio-cultural fabric of Karbi Anglong.
The call for alertness comes as part of the wider community mobilisation and administrative measures to prevent unauthorised settlement in the district following displacement caused by the state government’s intensified crackdown on illegal encroachments.
