Hema Das, who had been suffering from chronic abdominal pain for the past few years, was diagnosed with chronic calculous cholecystitis (gall bladder stones) and diabetes at various hospitals.

Due to lack of financial resources and unawareness of the PMJAY scheme, she was unable to afford surgery.

Upon visiting the SSB Composite Hospital in Salonibari, she was advised surgery by the attending doctors.

On July 23, a surgical team led by Dr Jaleswar Chakma, Comdt (Surgeon), along with Dr Nikhil (Anaesthesia), nurse Krishna, and the OT team comprising Anish, Anushree and others, successfully performed a cholecystectomy, removing 120 stones from her gall bladder.
