Preparatory meeting held for 79th I-Day celebration

KOKRAJHAR, July 29: District officials on Tuesday held a preparatory meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall to finalise arrangements for Kokrajhar’s 79th Independence Day celebration.

Participants discussed work distribution among departments, selection of parade contingents, and coordination of cultural programmes. In view of the prevailing hot weather, the meeting stressed health and safety measures for student participants and decided that rehearsals will begin at least a week before the event.

Chairing the session, Additional District Commissioner Subhram Aditya Bora urged all departments to ensure a peaceful, disciplined and dignified celebration.

He also called for cleanliness drives in government offices and the organisation of a friendly football match as part of the festivities.

Additional Superintendent of Police Nabanita Sarma outlined security arrangements, emphasising the removal of abandoned vehicles, garbage and other obstructions near the venue, office complexes and public spaces.

The meeting was attended by ADC Wadiul Islam, senior district administration officials, police representatives and heads of various government departments, who pledged full cooperation for the successful observance of Independence Day.
