The horrific act, according to local villagers, was perpetrated by her spouse, Jayanta Saikia, who was said to have been in a fit of drunken fury. The assault, sources stated, came after the couple had a heated spat late at night. Jayanta further escalated the situation shockingly by allegedly burning his wife during the fight.

After the incident, police arrested the accused husband immediately and initiated a formal probe into the matter. It was also discovered that Jayanta Saikia had a criminal record and had earlier been arrested in relation to a different case, which raised questions regarding a pattern of violent activities.

The heinous murder has caused outrage among people in the locality. The act has been condemned by the people and they are asking for severe and immediate punishment of the accused, demanding justice for Meghali Saikia.
