ITANAGAR, Aug 8: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday virtually inaugurated the Arunachal Pradesh Patients’ Guest House in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, to provide affordable accommodation for residents of the state seeking treatment at the Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore, according to an official statement.
The facility has been developed to ease the accommodation challenges faced by patients and attendants who travel to Vellore for specialised medical care.
Official data shows that around 466 patients from Arunachal Pradesh visit CMC every month, with the annual number exceeding 5,500.
Many of them have long struggled with high lodging costs and congested living conditions during their stay.
Situated about 4 km from CMC, the newly built guest house offers 28 clean rooms, with air-conditioned rooms available at ₹600 per day and non-AC rooms at ₹400 per day.
Self-cooking facilities have also been provided to allow families to prepare their own meals during extended treatment periods.
In his address, Khandu said the guest house was more than just an infrastructure project, describing it as a promise that the government would stand by its people during their most difficult times.
He stressed that the initiative was aimed at providing comfort, dignity and support to patients and their families far from home.
According to the statement, the project has been widely lauded by patients, their families, and members of the public, particularly those who have previously incurred heavy expenses while staying in cities such as Vellore, Mumbai, New Delhi, Guwahati and Dibrugarh for medical purposes.
Many expressed hope that the facility would go a long way in easing the financial and emotional strain faced by the needy and economically weaker sections, as well as others accompanying patients for treatment in major hospitals across the country.
The state government said the Vellore guest house is part of its broader commitment to extend similar support in other major medical hubs, ensuring that people from Arunachal Pradesh have access to safe, affordable and dignified accommodation whenever they seek advanced healthcare outside the state.
