GOSSAIGAON, Aug 9: With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections fast approaching, political activity in the Guma constituency has entered a heated phase.

Recently, the Indian National Congress organised a massive rally at Babubil under the 2 No Guma BTC constituency, where party hopeful Abu Bakkar Ali launched fierce criticism against both the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).

Taking direct aim at BPF’s candidate Entaz Ali, Abu Bakkar alleged that the candidate cannot even write his own name properly.

“How can we expect progress from someone so unqualified? BPF has irresponsibly placed the constituency’s future in such hands,” he said.

Highlighting what he described as years of neglect, Abu Bakkar accused both BPF and UPPL of failing to deliver meaningful development in Guma.

“UPPL has no grassroots presence here; their candidates are chosen primarily for their hunger for power. People are starting to see through this political opportunism,” he remarked.

Positioning himself as a “son of the soil,” Abu Bakkar pledged to address unemployment, education gaps, and underdevelopment if elected.

Adding further fuel to the political fire, former MCLA Mominur Islam levelled sensational accusations, claiming that the BJP is financially backing both BPF and UPPL.

“This isn’t just open support for UPPL — BJP is also secretly funding BPF. It’s part of a larger conspiracy,” he alleged.

He further claimed that the BPF’s candidate in Guma was strategically chosen to indirectly benefit the BJP, calling the move an unholy nexus that threatens the political integrity of the region.

With such strong allegations flying across party lines, Guma’s electoral contest is shaping up to be one of the most contentious and politically charged battles of the BTC polls.
