CEM Gorlosa highlighted district’s devp initiatives

HAFLONG, Aug 16: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour across Dima Hasao district on Friday .

Chief Executive Member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa hoisted the national Tricolour at the N. L. Daulagupu Sports Complex in Haflong. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, ACS, and Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, IPS.

Addressing the gathering, CEM Gorlosa highlighted the district’s development initiatives. He said that with the present pace of growth, Dima Hasao would soon be counted among developed districts.

Stressing on education as the foundation of prosperity, he announced sanctioning of funds for 17 new hostels to encourage students, particularly in rural areas, to pursue higher studies.

He also underlined efforts to engage youth in sports through construction of new stadiums and playgrounds and spoke of tourism as a promising sector for employment generation. Gorlosa said the council, with support from the Prime Minister and Assam Chief Minister, is prioritising improved road connectivity within the district and beyond. He also acknowledged social contributors who safeguard traditional values and promote community responsibility.

In Maibang subdivision, the Independence Day celebration saw large public participation. Sub-Divisional Officer Shymanta Rabi Bara, ACS, hoisted the national flag in the presence of SDPO Vaibhav Rawat, IPS, and local MAC member Monjoy Langthasa.

The programme featured a march past, cultural performances, and prize distribution for meritorious students. Ahead of the celebrations, people across the district enthusiastically participated in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, displaying the national flag in their homes as a mark of unity and patriotism.
