DIPHU, Aug 18: A meeting was convened by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, with Karbi people residing outside the jurisdiction of KAAC at the conference hall of the CEM’s bungalow here on Monday to deliberate on developmental matters concerning their welfare and future prospects.
The initiative aimed to strengthen community bonds and ensure inclusive growth for Karbis irrespective of geographical boundaries.

The discussion focused on the need for equitable development opportunities for Karbis living in different parts of Assam and beyond.
Issues such as cultural preservation, educational support, youth empowerment and welfare schemes were raised.
The meeting also stressed the importance of representation and policy measures to safeguard the interests of Karbi families living outside the KAAC region.
Leaders and representatives of the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS), including its president Humsing Bey, general secretary Sunil Tokbi, adviser Chandrasing Kro and senior members, actively participated in the deliberations.
The Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) also extended its cooperation, emphasising the cultural and linguistic unity that binds the community despite geographical distances.
Speakers underlined the vision of creating a stronger support system for Karbi youths pursuing higher education and professional opportunities in cities while encouraging them to remain connected to their roots.
Suggestions included exploring cultural exchange programmes, scholarship support and advocacy for greater recognition of Karbi identity in the broader socio-political sphere of Assam. The meeting concluded on a positive note with a collective commitment to continue such interactions in future, ensuring that no section of the Karbi community feels excluded from the ongoing developmental journey.
