ITANAGAR, Aug 25: A high-level delegation from the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), comprising of members such as Fr Arockia Raj, Arulmathi and R Premkumar, is on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh and the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) with the objective of studying the best practices adopted by the state commission in the conduct of recruitment examinations.

According to an official statement, the visiting team was accorded a warm reception by members and senior officials of the APPSC on arrival.

The interaction between the two commissions was aimed at institutional collaboration, knowledge exchange, and learning from each other’s experiences in examination reforms and transparent recruitment practices.

During the deliberations, Col Koj Tari (Retd), member of APPSC, highlighted several measures undertaken to revamp the functioning of the commission in recent years.

He pointed out that the APPSC has focused extensively on creating fair, transparent and technology-driven systems that ensure equal opportunities for all aspirants.

He also underlined that reforms were designed not just to restore public confidence in the commission but also to set high standards for efficiency and accountability.

P Priyatrshini, IAS, OSD, APPSC, explained in detail the procedures followed by the Commission in the conduct of examinations.

She outlined the broader reforms adopted by the APPSC, which include examination automation, digitisation initiatives, innovative recruitment processes, and various measures aimed at ensuring efficiency and transparency.

She emphasised that these steps were not merely procedural, but were introduced to uphold the credibility of the institution in the eyes of the public.

The TNPSC delegates, on their part, also made a detailed presentation on the reforms and practices adopted by their commission.

They explained the systems and procedures followed in Tamil Nadu to ensure smooth and fair recruitment examinations, particularly through the adoption of technology-driven methods.

It was highlighted that the TNPSC has streamlined its processes by making extensive use of digital platforms to reduce manual errors, increase transparency, and make recruitment both efficient and inclusive.

The TNPSC team expressed their appreciation of the reforms implemented by the APPSC, especially in areas such as the introduction of an answer key challenge mechanism, coding of candidates during viva-voce examinations to conceal identity, the appointment of senior government officials as observers and coordinators, and the establishment of examination halls that are friendly and accessible to Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

These initiatives, they said, represented forward-looking steps that ensured fairness, accountability, and inclusivity in recruitment.

Both commissions also engaged in extensive discussions on the role of public service commissions in strengthening democratic governance.

The dialogue focused on how transparent and credible recruitment processes contribute directly to efficient public service delivery.

By ensuring that deserving candidates are selected on merit, commissions like APPSC and TNPSC play a vital role in shaping the quality of governance and administration in their respective states.

According to the official statement, the visit of the TNPSC delegation marks an important step in strengthening inter-state institutional ties.

It is expected to open new avenues of cooperation and coordination between the two commissions, especially in areas such as adopting modern examination techniques, sharing expertise in handling large-scale recruitment drives, and designing more inclusive systems that cater to candidates from diverse backgrounds.

The statement further added that the exchange also highlights the growth of the APPSC in recent years.

Despite being one of the youngest public service commissions in the country, the APPSC has quickly carved out a reputation for itself by adopting reforms, modernising examination procedures, and demonstrating a commitment to transparency.

The measures implemented by the commission have not only improved efficiency but also helped rebuild trust among candidates and the public.

The visit concluded with a note of mutual appreciation, as both the APPSC and TNPSC resolved to continue such exchanges in the future for the benefit of public service delivery.

The interaction, according to officials, symbolises the growing importance of knowledge-sharing among state institutions in India, particularly in the field of governance and recruitment.
