GUWAHATI, Sept 12: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday released the BJP’s election manifesto for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Council polls, reiterating the party’s commitment to peace, progress, and prosperity, while promising full implementation of the Bodo Peace Accord.
At the unveiling ceremony held at Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, Sarma said that the BJP is contesting the polls for the first time with the objective of forming the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), and has received immense support from people across the region.

“The BTR is a symbol of the aspirations of 26 communities living in its five districts, as well as the political aspirations of the Bodos,” he said. “We must foster harmony among these communities while respecting their art, culture, and traditions.”
The chief minister assured that the BJP will prioritise peace, infrastructure, and women’s empowerment in the region.
“We have promised 100 per cent implementation of the Bodo Peace Accord. In the next five years, we will resolve administrative issues to ensure all communities feel ownership of the council,” he said.
Among the key promises, the manifesto commits to establishing new higher educational institutions, including a new campus of Bodoland University in Udalguri, making Tamulpur Medical College functional at the earliest, and setting up colleges in all subdivisions.
The BJP will also focus on connectivity by building bridges over rivers and tributaries and safeguarding the constitutional and land rights of all communities.
Sarma emphasised that all state government schemes, particularly those benefiting women and girl students in backward areas, will be implemented across the region.
“Equal rights for all communities will be ensured to foster development throughout the BTR,” he said.
He urged residents to read the manifesto, which will be available both in print and digitally, to realise the BJP’s commitment to building a new and developed BTR.
He also appealed to members of all parties to maintain peace and harmony during the elections, stating, “Polls will come and go, but we must ensure that harmony and peace among communities are maintained.”
With elections to the 40-member council scheduled for September 22, the BJP is contesting independently for the first time.
The party aims to emerge as a strong political force in the region, building on the response to its campaign.
The manifesto, released in languages spoken by the diverse communities of BTR, reflects the BJP’s vision for inclusive growth and development in the coming years. (With inputs from PTI)
