NAHARLAGUN, Sept 13: In the wake of recent unrest and security concerns at the state’s lone medical college, TRIHMS, the Home and Border Affairs Minister Mama Natung recently announced that police outposts have been installed at both TRIHMS and RK Mission Hospital, with plans to extend similar measures to other medical facilities.

The minister assured that the state government is committed to resolving all security-related issues and providing full support to healthcare institutions.

Addressing the media following a high-level meeting at TRIHMS, Minister Natung said the discussions focused on improving security arrangements and addressing ongoing concerns affecting doctors, nurses, and hospital staff.

The meeting was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister, local MLA Techi Kaso, DGP Anan Mohan, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Itanagar and Naharlagun, along with representatives from TRIHMS and the Health Department.

“We have begun resolving the issues one by one. The police outpost at TRIHMS is already operational, and another at RK Mission Hospital is in the process of being set up. We are committed to addressing the problems in a structured manner,” he stated.

The meeting was convened after recent unrest at the premier medical institute, which raised serious concerns about security gaps and deteriorating trust between medical professionals and patients.

Minister Natung acknowledged that the situation escalated into a state-wide agitation by doctors, which was called off only after intervention from the government.

“The agitation was called off just last night following discussions with the state administration. We do not endorse calls for bandh and urge everyone to resolve issues peacefully and within the framework of law,” the minister said.

The home minister stressed the importance of ensuring a secure environment where doctors and healthcare workers can perform their duties without fear or disruption.

“Peace and tranquility are essential. When there is peace, work flows smoothly. Everyone must abide by the law and work together for the greater good of society,” he added.

Referring to the Supreme Court’s directive on providing security to healthcare institutions, minister Natung confirmed that adequate security measures have been implemented at TRIHMS.

“We want doctors and nurses to work without hindrance. Their dedication to patient care is invaluable, and peace is a must for smooth functioning,” he emphasised.

The minister also appealed to healthcare professionals to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity and compassion, prioritising patient welfare above all.

“Trust among colleagues and towards patients is the foundation of good healthcare. We are committed to creating a safe environment so that medical services can be delivered effectively for the benefit of the people of the state,” he said.

Regarding the recent incident at TRIHMS that triggered unrest, minister Natung confirmed that a police case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Additionally, an independent inquiry has been ordered to probe the circumstances and ensure accountability.

The government’s decisive action reflects its commitment to safeguarding healthcare institutions, ensuring security for medical staff, and fostering an atmosphere of trust and cooperation necessary for delivering quality healthcare services.
