GUWAHATI, Sept 16: Bharti Airtel has reported a significant decline in cybercrime complaints on its network, following the implementation of its AI-powered anti-fraud initiatives.

Recent data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), corroborates the effectiveness of Airtel’s measures in protecting customers.

According to the MHA-I4C analysis, financial losses due to cybercrime on the Airtel network decreased by 68.7%, while overall cybercrime incidents dropped by 14.3%.

The data compares key indicators from September 2024, prior to the launch of Airtel’s Fraud and Spam Detection Solution, with figures from June 2025, demonstrating a substantial reduction in both monetary and operational cyber threats.

Commenting on the achievement, Gopal Vittal, vice chairman and managing director of Bharti Airtel, said, “We are on a mission to eliminate spam and financial fraud for our customers. In the past year, our AI-powered network solutions have identified over 48.3 billion spam calls and blocked 3.2 lakh fraudulent links. While these are significant steps, we view them as part of a larger, ongoing fight against digital fraud. We will continue to innovate and invest heavily to ensure our networks remain free of spam and scams.”

He further added, “The impact shared by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) is extremely encouraging and validates our efforts. We commend MHA I4C and the Department of Telecommunications for their initiatives, and we look forward to deeper collaboration with authorities to eliminate cybercrime threats.”

Airtel had pioneered India’s first network-based AI-powered Spam Detection Solution in September 2024, aimed at addressing the country’s growing spam calls and messages problem. The solution alerts customers in real-time to suspected spam calls and SMSes.

In May 2025, the company introduced the world’s first network-based solution to detect and block malicious links across all communication channels in real time.

These services have been seamlessly integrated and auto-enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband customers at no additional cost.

The I4C findings underscore the effectiveness of Airtel’s proactive measures in creating a safer digital environment for its users and highlight the potential of AI-driven solutions in curbing cybercrime and financial fraud.
