DIBRUGARH, Sept 18: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal led a grand celebration in Dibrugarh on Wednesday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, coinciding with the nationwide launch of the Swasth Nari – Sabal Pariwar Abhiyan and the eighth Rashtriya Poshan Maah.
From Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi dedicated these initiatives to the nation, highlighting his vision of robust healthcare, improved nutrition, and stronger families.

In Dibrugarh, Sonowal spearheaded a day-long programme bringing together citizens, healthcare providers, women’s groups, and community leaders, reflecting Assam’s commitment to the prime minister’s transformative agenda.
The celebrations featured free health check-ups, distribution of essential medicines, a voluntary blood donation camp, and a tree plantation drive under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, which encourages citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers.
Sonowal highlighted the importance of preserving Assam’s green heritage, quoting Srimanta Sankardeva: “Ek Briksha, Das Putra Sam – we must protect and nurture trees as we do our children.”
Addressing the gathering, Sonowal praised women’s participation and empowerment, citing examples from Kerala and Tamil Nadu to emphasise courage and resilience.
He said initiatives such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, maternal health programs, and women’s economic inclusion reflect Modi’s long-standing focus on Nari Shakti.
Sonowal also interacted with doctors, nurses, health workers, and mothers at the health camp, acknowledging their contributions.
He emphasised that the Swasth Nari – Sabal Pariwar Abhiyan is a societal mission aimed at promoting women’s health, child nutrition, and family wellbeing.
“When women are healthy and empowered, families thrive, and when families thrive, the nation prospers,” he said.
