GUWAHATI, Sept 18: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has rolled out its annual Swachhata Hi Seva campaign across all divisions and its headquarters from September 17, with a special emphasis on eco-friendly practices and community participation.
The fortnight-long campaign, which will continue till October 2, 2025, is being observed at railway stations, trains, workshops, residential colonies, offices, and other railway establishments under the theme Swachhotsav.
Inaugurating the campaign at Maligaon, NFR general manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava administered the Swachhata Pledge to officers and staff, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to a cleaner and greener environment.
Senior officials and employees across divisions also joined the pledge, setting the tone for a series of activities that will focus on cleanliness, sustainability, and public awareness.
As part of the initiative, NFR will undertake intensive cleanliness drives at station premises, railway tracks, office complexes, and colonies.
Awareness programmes are being designed to reach both passengers and local communities, while workshops for railway staff will focus on sustainable practices.
Special efforts will be made to identify and eliminate unserviceable materials.
The campaign will also highlight the “3R principle — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” to promote a culture of environmental responsibility.
Interactive sessions, awareness messages, and public pledges are being organised to ensure the campaign becomes a mass movement involving not only railway employees but also citizens and passengers.
NFR officials stressed that sustainable cleanliness requires continuous and collective effort from every section of society.
Adding an innovative touch to this year’s campaign, NFR introduced compostable bags manufactured by IIT Guwahati for distributing bedrolls in all originating trains.
This eco-friendly measure, launched on the opening day, aims to cut down on single-use plastic within railway operations and sets a new benchmark in sustainable service delivery.
NFR authorities expressed confidence that the blend of eco-friendly innovation, staff involvement, and public participation would make Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 not just a symbolic campaign, but a lasting step towards aligning railway practices with the national Swachh Bharat Abhiyan mission.
