KIMIN, Sept 23: The DBT-APSCS&T Centre of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development (CoE for BRSD), Kimin, inaugurated a three-day training programme on “Embark Your Mushroom Entrepreneurship Journey & Banana Fibre Enterprise Development” on Tuesday.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address and programme briefing by Debajit Mahanta, Project Director, DBT-APSCS&T CoE for BRSD, Kimin, who emphasised the immense potential of mushroom cultivation for entrepreneurship.
He noted that the training programme could be a significant step towards promoting mushroom-based enterprises in the state.
Prof Sandeep Das, Head, Department of Biotechnology and Director, Technology Incubation Centre, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar, Assam, delivered a keynote address on mushroom cultivation.
He highlighted the diverse by-products from mushrooms, including noodles and pastas, and stressed the importance of using spent mushroom substrate as organic manure, soil conditioners, and even in new mushroom-growing cycles, thereby reducing costs and waste.
Guest of honour, additional deputy commissioner of Kimin, Ocean Gao, APCS, underlined the role of entrepreneurship in rural empowerment.
He emphasised that in any business, patience and etiquette remain the true keys to sustainable growth.
Chief guest, former minister and chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology, Tage Taki, stressed the pivotal role of farmers in driving the nation’s economy.
He said that empowering farmers was essential for building self-reliant communities and making the nation truly Atma Nirbhar.
He appealed to the farmers to avail benefits from the training programme and to establish close linkages with the Centre of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Kimin, for technical guidance and further support.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Pompi Das, Scientist-B, DBT-APSCS&T CoE for BRSD, Kimin, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, experts, participants, and the organising team.
A total of 23 participants attended the training, including eight farmers and Self-Help Group members from Liromoba and Yomcha areas of West Siang, five members from Organic Farmers Producers Company FPO from Rupa, West Kameng, and nine prospective entrepreneurs from Kimin in Papum Pare district and the Itanagar Capital Region, alongside scientists, researchers and officials of the CoE for BRSD, Kimin. Over the three-day course, the participants will receive technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and entrepreneurial insights in mushroom cultivation and banana fibre enterprise development.
